We were very excited (and honored) to be a part of the The Cake Blog’s 12 Days of Christmas Cakes this year. We love The Cake Blog, and knew we wanted to go big for this Christmas Tree Cake.
And that’s the main question… it always is the main question. What should we make? Carrie left the design choices wide open giving great creative options. Paraphrasing, she said to pick something that inspires you about Christmas and use that inspiration in the cake.
The inspiration came to us from our yearly tradition of Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party at Walt Disney World — specifically, the Christmas tree. With that in mind, we literally lit up our Christmas Tree Cake.
For this cake, we knew we wanted to create a real cake. Although dummy cakes are beautiful, we wanted this to look and taste like a Christmas Cake.
We used 5 tiers of cake. The bigger, bottom tier had an Almond cake paired with Nutella buttercream. Then we used two tiers of dark chocolate cake with layers of peppermint buttercream. The final tiers had red velvet cake with layers of green vanilla buttercream.
Yeni loves gingerbread men… and they made the perfect ornaments. We also stole our own Christmas cookie designs and replicated them on the cake as well. =)
If you look closely you can see the lights throughout the cake. We used cool LED lights to really set the mood.
We wanted this cake to scream Christmas, but at the same time work for both young and young at heart. Just like the song says… for kids from One to Ninety-Two. =)
Of course, the lights really helped. 😉
We loved this cake, and loved enjoying this cake with friends at a lovely Gainesville, Florida Christmas Party. We were honored to share this Christmas Tree cake with The Cake Blog and look forward to making more.
