Happy Birthday. Meep!

Fondant sculptures adorn a 30th birthday custom decorated cake.
30th Birthday with Fondant Figures

When you answer the phone at Dream Day Cakes, you never know where the conversation will take you. From directions to our Gainesville bakery, to questions about fondant, each call let’s us meet new people. Of all the calls we get, our favorites have to be the “Can you?” questions.

My husband’s turning 30 and we love the Muppets. Well, we really love Beaker and Dr. Benson Honeydew. It’s a long story that… [snip]… Can you make a cake that…

Yes, we can.

We love these calls. First, we love learning about our customers. Custom cakes usually have a backstory, inside joke, or special meaning that always involves a great story. During the call the creative juices start flowing and before you know, the customer helps design the exact cake they want. We feed off their excitement, and can’t wait to get started.

Fondant allows you to sculpt cakes with great detail.

While forming the characters out of fondant, “Meep Meep” sounds could be heard throughout the bakery (we’ve dubbed this the Meep cake). Fondant not only helps protect a cake, it really provides a great medium for sculpting. Our heroes are completely formed from our hand made fondant,  making them 100% edible. But who could eat these adorable guys? Often times, people will save them– and with proper care, they can last for years.

This special, 30th birthday cake enjoyed alternating layers of chocolate and vanilla cake, separated by our Cookies & Cream Buttercream. Mmmm. So yummy!

We’d love to hear your “can you” question as well. If you’re in the Gainesville, Florida area, stop by the bakery! Or, give us a call at (352) 336-8955.
