Our great friend Byron Terwillegar asked us to create a custom cake for the Raiders of the Lost Ark event (here in Gainesville, Florida) benefiting the Florida Museum of Natural History. When Byron works an event, we jump at the chance to work with him.
For those that don’t know, Byron is chef/owner of Blue Water Bay in Melrose (just a quick drive from Gainesville) — simply one of the best restaurants we’ve ever enjoyed.
With Blue Water Bay catering the event, we knew it would be a blast.
The theme was Raiders of the Lost Ark and even though the monkey brain scene (not familiar?) didn’t happen until Temple of Doom, we knew it would work. Plus, this was a benefit event… everyone was there to have a great time and raise money for the museum.
For this custom, sculpted cake, Yeni used a Red Velvet base with Classic Vanilla buttercream. Besides having great taste, the sight of red when cutting the cake would simply add to the experience.
The cake was sculpted and then covered in fondant; allowing Yeni to really fine tune the details. To give the exposed brain a more “realistic” touch, we used a fantastic berry reduction from Blue Water Bay.
At Dream Day Cakes®, we love creating fun, sculpted cakes. When we get to create a cake for our favorite chef — it’s an honor you just don’t turn down.
This sculpted, monkey brain cake was created to assist with a fund raising event benefiting the Florida Museum of Natural History in Gainesville, Florida. As we like to say, every event deserves Dream Day Cakes®.
